I was never into comics either. I always felt like everyone else was into them except me. So I've found a new member to the 'Weren't into Comics Club' now.
What was your reason for not being into comics? I looked at them occasionally, of course, but I didn't particularly care for them. I wasn't really a fan of superheroes. Weren't big on heroes generally. Always self-righteous and square. I always preferred the villain. When I played cops and robbers, I was always bandit. I hated the weird costumes they wore. The little pants over their tights. Didn't seem right. I preferred The Hulk, although I only watched the 70s TV show. Didn't read the comic Hulk.
I think, for me, it was just a case of being into films instead. When really young, six-ish, I read the occasional Beano—but usually only if the TV was occupied. The whole superhero thing never appealed to me, either.
As a teen, I quite liked Blade (the movie) because of the vampire world; it was more horror in its roots than fantasy. Plus his adversaries would meet a grisly end. It seemed that with most superhero movies, the villains would always survive the final battle and be put in jail or an asylum so they could break out in a future issue/movie, and, I don't know, it seemed a bit pointless.
But, yeah, I was much more likely to watch Jaws on repeat. And later I would watch all the films of Scorsese, Kubrick, and Kurosawa—that was more my lane. Still is.
